? ? ?1、不溶于水和酸，化學性質穩定，無磁性毒性，并有吸收Ｘ射線和伽馬射線的性能。重晶石主要產于沉積層狀礦床和低溫熱液礦脈中，常與石英、白云石、方解石、螢石、方鉛礦、閃鋅礦、黃銅礦等共生。
? ? ?2、主要用于石油和天然氣鉆井泥漿的加重劑，也是提取金屬鋇和制取各種鋇化合物的重要礦物原料。工業上**重要的鋇化合物有碳酸鋇、氯化鋇、硫酸鋇、硝酸鋇、氫氧化鋇、氧化鋇、過氧化鋇、鉻酸鋇、錳酸鋇、氯酸鋇、鋅鋇白、多硫化鋇等。鋇化合物的用途十分廣泛：用作橡膠、塑料、顏料、涂料、造紙、紡織品、油漆、油墨、焊條的原料及填料；用作鋇基潤滑脂、油料精制、甜菜制糖、人造絲的原料；用作殺蟲劑、**劑、滅鼠劑 綠色煙火、信號彈、曳光彈、醫學X光照像的指示劑等；還用于玻璃、陶瓷、皮革、電子、建材、冶金等部門。金屬鋇可作電視和真空管的吸氣劑、黏結劑。鋇與鋁、鎂、鉛、銀等金屬制作的合金用于制造軸承。
? ? ?3、作印染的媒染劑，織物的上漿劑、加重劑，造紙的填充劑，防火織物及制革的填充劑，醫藥工業的瀉劑和生產胃藥三硅酸鎂的原料，食道、胃腸道X射線造影診斷于生產鮮酵母、味精和牙膏用磷酸氫鈣的穩定劑，亦用于配制植物冬眠延長劑。在金屬電鍍中用于無裂紋鍍液的配制，在鍍鎳液中作導電鹽，還能使鍍層白面柔軟。
? ? ?4、用作膠黏劑、密封劑、橡膠、塑料、油漆、油墨、白色顏料、絕緣帶等的填充劑，可賦予橡膠、塑料制品以X射線不透過性，并可提高氯丁橡膠制品的耐燃性。紡織上可用作上漿劑。印相紙及銅版紙生產時用作表面涂布劑。電鍍工業用作鍍鎳液的導電鹽，可**電鍍液分散性。玻璃制造中用作澄清劑，具有增加光澤及消泡作用。也是制造搪瓷、陶瓷、顏料及其他鋇鹽等的原料及Ｘ射線透視腸胃造影劑等。
